I'm a bit frustrated with the way things have been going in my job hunt.. I definately dont want to wait till the last minute and start looking. I'm graduating in My and want to have something in the works or secure by then.. I've been surfing the usual online sites and applying for everything I can possibly click on.. No luck yet.. I went to a job fair this tuesday, and boy did it suck. All of the gigs there revolved around phone sales or some other telemarketing bs. Today I went to meet with a placement councelor at my old school, and I told her about the sucky job fair. She had also heard about how terrible it was and shook her head in disgust.. so the hunt goes on, i'm applying like madd, and i've got the councelor sending me leads and getting interviews for me.. I'm confident things will work out really good and i'll be able to post about my hott new gig pretty soon.
God is good.. so good.. too good.. Blessings drop down on ya in all kinds of unexpected ways.. This guy at my moms job who resells merchandise brought in a whole sack of dress shoes and sandals in my size.. Fortunately the other ladies at moms gig have big feet and couldn't fit the 8's he brought in.. She brought me home 4 pairs of beautiful shoes, one pair in particular will look great with my new interview suits.. He said that he was trying to get rid of them, and gave them to her.. Now how often does one get 4 pairs of beautiful designer shoes dropped off on em for free.. Not very often at all.. Now this is the same guy who gave my mom a fur coat, a leather coat, and sold us a microwave and tv for 20 bucks total. Dude always come through with some good stuff. I'm going to have to make it to his store one of these dayz.
Speaking of the interview suits, I must stress that everyone should have at least one "killer suit" in their closet.. A big part of the job getting process is appearance and ya can't slack off on the interviewing gear.. A few weeks ago I did some major shopping and got some killer suits.. I feel like a confident executive in the gear, and have that look that says "i'll kill my competition and chew their bones for this job" A sleek, professional dark colored pants suit with a big splash of color in the shirt/cami under the jacket, and some color in the purse and dark shoes is the way to go.. Just had to put that out there cuz lawd knows I saw some major hott ass messes at the job fair.. Sistas showed up in jeans and a sweater, skirts so short n tight it looked like they were going to sell azz on the corner, sweatpants, and a variety of other non-professional nonsense.. I mean damn if ya can't get a killer suit, at least throw on a black skirt and white blouse, errybody should have one of those, it's a church outfit right.. lol
Posted by Pamela at March 17, 2005 07:35 PMgood luck out there girl, i'm out there hunting with you...i'm starting to think school resources are the best ones (career ctrs and such) cuz looking in the paper makes me feel like everyone in the city is applying for the same job as I am.
